You can pry the metal bracket off, and inside there's a rubber thing and a convex metal disk that handles the popping action.
A bit of bending later, and the button seems to work.

Can't really test it though.  See the power rating?  It says 500mA MAX.  Is 500mA more than 1.3A?  My calculator (and the blown transformer) say NO!
